Race for Tunis back on line  Reply with quote

I have finished restoring the Race for Tunis page. Thanks to everyone who helped. Race for Tunis was a campaign written mostly by Greg Novak but with help from other members of the team that would allow a group to run a small low density campaign either on their own or over the course of a convention. Here is the link:

Pretty cool! Very Happy It's good to see this up again. Any plans or dreams to use it for HMGS conventions?

Tom: Wasn't that at an Advance The Colors convention in Springfield? I vaguely remember either playing in or watching a session of this game.

I bought the printed contents that are now on your website, but never ran the game. It is a lot like the recent Phillipines book that came out last year, BTW.

It was the first time I met Greg after corresponding with him about the original CD mailer. I had my ~11 year old son in tow, so that would make it about 14-15 years ago?

Who else was there? I was much younger and better looking at that time long ago so you may not have recognized me at Historicon a couple years ago.......yeah, that's the explanation!

There were lots of opportunities to recognize you, though. You played in a quite a few games!

Was that the second year for Historicon at Valley Forge? I believe it was, because Tom ran the Second Day at Sidi Rezegh game with lots of players that year.

We appreciate you rebuilding this website Tom!

Are the referenced white transportation lines actually orange on the map?

Are the airfields just objectives or are their air units?

The last victory condition is a typo: If the Axis side has more points than the Allied players: A Major Allied (should be Axis) Victory

I want to ask about a very minor issue: your possessive/contraction apostrophes appear as Rommel’s instead of what I assume you wanted: Rommel's.

This gibberish substitution also happens to me when I publish tour itineraries with "typesetting quotes" instead of the keyboard's "inchmarks" (to the left of the return key). It also happens with m-dashes and accent marks.

I assume this may only come up with certain browsers and operating systems. Maybe the gibberish doesn't appear on yours; I use a Mac and Firefox or Chrome.

Since you work with html, I thought I'd ask you about it. My only work around is to substitute like 2 short dashes for long, inchmark/footmark for typesetter single/double quotes and remove accent marks. This is a pain because I also use the database to produce styled text for InDesign. I'd love to build a solution but my programmers haven't figured out how to have the same text work for DTP and Web upload.

Bill,
Thanks for the review will work on the changes and answer questions once I have time to investigate. This was a bigger project than I thought and I did a number of improvements including a colored map.

(To download a detailed copy of the map on my web page, right click on the SMALLER version of the map, which is at right and above the larger version.)

Tom,

You're welcome!

I was curious to see how the US Army map of the area looked and so I downloaded the whole North Africa book and then I made a map of the area showing the battlefields.

You can see that the tabletop areas are 6x6 miles in size and so with typical 6x9' tables (2x3 miles) the battlefields need to be "slimmed down" once you decide the orientation and which way is north etc.

PS Your schematic map is practical, very compact and detailed with all the info needed. I just couldn't resist making a "realistic" map that showed unimportant details like rail lines and coast line shapes!

Do not right click on the map below ...go to site: http://www.g-design.us/cd/#TunisiaMap ...and right click on the tiny version the same map.

Neat map and it does seem to resemble Gregs map. All the corrections Bill found have been made. Missed adding two files optional Aircraft and terrain.
