Rules for the Use of FKL units.

These rules are suggestions only. Try them out and modify them as you see fit.

BIV's, Brens and Chenilles have drivers and act as normal vehicles until the drivers dismount. Other types are purely remote control, they always act under the following rules

In order to control a demolition vehicle the controlling vehicle must meet these criteria. It must be halted under a No Order. It must have an uninterrupted LOS to the demolition vehicle. The driver of the demolition vehicle must have dismounted. The controlled must not be pinned

FKL tanks may give orders to any unmanned demolition vehicle. Unmanned vehicles with radios can be controlled two at a time, wire guided vehicles one at a time. If the controller is pinned or destroyed in the opportunity fire phase the demolition is assumed to have move ½ distance intended then stops.

Tanks controlling demo vehicles may not fire..

Unmanned demo vehicles may only be given cautious advance orders (or no orders). They always use their cross-country speed. Radio controlled vehicles may not go beyond 20” range of the controller.[1] Wire guided vehicles have a max tabletop range of 15". Controllers must have LOS to the demo vehicle for the majority of its move. Anything larger than a single BUA and the vehicle will stop. Note that most of these vehicles only come up to a man's waist so a wall or modest hedge will obscure it. The Goliath is only half a meter tall.

Manned demo vehicles are not allowed to move closer to the enemy than the controlling AFV. Dismounting an FKL driver is "free". Goliaths and others without drivers must be taken from their trailers, which takes ½ turn. For game purposes the crewmembers of Demo vehicles will be assumed to make his way to the controlling tank and be waiting there if the vehicle returns. Remounting is "free"

To attack the BIV drops its charge and gets a free move in reverse to the edge of the blast area. Other types self destruct. All explosions take place in the general fire phase

All vehicles must roll to see if they detonate properly. The following table lists the number to be rolled together with HE values and HE areas. Any stand or pillbox, that was the intended target of the vehicle, which is touching it, is automatically destroyed if the reliability roll is passed. Other targets within the area will need to be diced for as a standard H class attack.

The vehicles can also be used to breach minefields using explosives, this type of attack will clear all mines in the blast area. It will make a one vehicle wide gap in barbed wire obstacles. This type of attack wasn't very successful at Kursk as the artillery cratered ground made it very hard to distinguish the path made by the BIV. In scenarios with a great deal of artillery in play the referee may chose to ban this type of attack

The BIV (only) can carry a smoke generator. This leaves a screen behind the vehicle along it track. It last until the end of the opportunity fire phase NEXT turn. The generator carries one turns worth of smoke. it may be turned on remotely.

A BIV will destroy a class III bridge. Others, excepting the Goliath will bring down class II bridges.

-4 on reliability in the desert

The BIV ausf A's hydraulic controls do not work in very cold temperatures, it is unusable in the Russian winter. This was fixed in the ausf B.

Any demolition vehicle hit by AT or HE fire and destroyed will explode.

A BIV halted for two full turns by the half-track carrying spare charges is considered reloaded if it does not come under fire. The half-track only reloads one BIV at a time.

The Goliath is very small. Half all direct fire hitting rolls at it (round down), but not small arms fire or HE.

[1] The maximum range of the radio link is theoretically 2000m but at Kursk the maximum range the BIV was used from its controller was 800m (16”). 1000m (20”) seems about right for the maximum range.
