Mokre
This game was played Sunday 23rd August. Chris hosted the game. Chris and Ian were playing the Soviets. Dave C and I were in control of the Germans. All Soviet forces from Chris's collection, all the Germans from mine
53rd Tank Brigade lined up at the start of the game. Cromwell IS-2 & Britannia T-34's
52nd Tank Brigade deployed at the start of the game in Mokre.. T-34/85's are Fujimi. This IS-2 is Ostmodels
Kampfgrupe Collin in its start positions
KG Collin - Fujimi PzKfw-IV; a mix of Skytrex & Cromwell SdKfz-251's; and Esci Tiger and Matchbox Panthers
I/64 Panzer Grenadiers deployed around Jablonika
StuG-III (Cromwell) attached to I/64 deployed by the stream to the east of Jablonika
KG Collin left the Tiger on its right flank to cover their advance east. 52nd Tank Brigade's first move was to swarm around the Tiger. A couple of T-34's paid the price but a luck penetration roll of a 10 meant the Tiger was left burning. The Soviet tactics were very effective
The Luftwaffe makes an early appearance. Bf-109G-10 (provided by Dave) makes a strafing run over the ranks of the 298th Rifle Regiment as they move behind the 53rd Tank Brigade assaulting the I/64 Panzergrenadiers.
KG Collin forges east towards Kurozweki
In the centre the 53rd tank bridge supported by the 289th Infantry Regiment push against I/64 in the centre trying to break through to interfere with KG Collin's push to the east
Panzergrenadiers keep moving east
The lead elements of KG Collin reach Kurozweki, unmolested by the Soviets
The rear elements of KG Collin take on the 52nd Tank brigade. Both sides morale would fail in this battle, falling back shaken. However the Soviets would be in a better position to rally their forces
A combination of the Luftwaffe attack and bad dice rolls meant the majority of the 289th Rifle regiment ran back for its start line, leaving the Germans unmolested in the centre of the battle
Without infantry support the attack of the 53rd Tank brigade grinds to a halt.
In the west the rear of KG Collin flees the battle as do the majority of the the 52nd Tank Brigade
The Panzergrenadiers of KG Collin arrive to support the Panthers at Kurozweki. There is still no sign of the Soviets
As the Soviets are absent from Kurozweki, and the Panzer IV's have fled, the German commander switches the Panthers rapidly to the east to deal with the swiftly rallying 52nd
Frontal Aviation make a rocket attack on the two Panthers. Unfortunately for the Soviets no damage is done
Reinforcements! 51st Tank Brigade arrives and move to reinforce the 53rd in the centre, hopefully to get the stalled attack against Jablonica moving again
Soviet FO observes the German position east of Jablonica. As the 289th has still not been rallied he is receiving a great deal of MG fire from the Germans and is not long for this world
The 52nd having rallied are thrown back in to the fray, charging for the Panthers
The 52nd's come-back is rather spoiled by being bombed by their own side
Soviet heavies move to support the 52nd's attack on the Panthers waiting west of Jablonika.
The 52nd tries to repeat the swarm tactics that worked so well against the Tiger. However this time there are more Germans and less T-34's. What's more the ISU and JS-2 are rather distant
The ISU provides long range fire support, however the short 152 is a less-than-ideal AT weapon from long range. The ISU is the new Pegasus fast build kit
The Luftwaffe arrives to break-up the renewed Russian assault in the centre. Although the 51st Tank Brigade finally nails the StuG it takes a T-34 with it and the air strike also puts pressure on Soviet morale. Revell Hs-129
About 3/4 the way through the battle. On the left the Panthers have repulsed the 52nd Tank brigade. In the centre the Soviet attack looks strong but is soon to fall apart. To the right the Panther left with the Panzergrenadiers around Kurozweki helps fend off the Soviet onslaught in the centre. Around Kurozweki all is quiet, though the tanks of the 51st look to be heading that way, drawn in to a battle with the Panther.
Final Soviet reinforcement, 1893rd SU Regiment arrive in southern Kurozweki (Fujimi SU-85)
The Pz-IV of KG Collin finally rally, somewhat too late to influence the tide of the battle
The SU-85's turn to face the Panther defending the north part of Kurozweki. Its too little to late and the Panther easily fends of the final Soviet attack
The game was a clear German victory. Although the 52nd made a good job of keeping the tail end of KG Collin occupied the attack in the centre just didn't come off, poor morale rolls preventing a co-ordinated assault. The Germans sat on their required victory location early on in the game and the Soviets took too long to make an attack to dislodge them.
