New Romney Pics

It has taken me a while to get around to doing this write-up so apologies if its more terse than normal. Also the light wasn't great in places (or it was my picture taking) so some of the pics are not the usual quality

Ian and I played the encroaching Germans and Chris & Dave played the stout defenders. Most of the British kit belonged to Chris & Dave. The Germans were supplied by yours truly

British artillery to the south west of Greatstone - all this kit is SHQ I believe

6" Coastal gun awaits the Germans and its crew. (Actually a 4" gun standing in for the 6")

The Germans of 111 Infanterie Regiment form up on Littlestone golf course in the fog

Pillbox to the south of New Romney. The Vickers MG can just be seen poking out

Supports of 109 Infanterie Regiment. Guns by SHQ, SdKfz-10 by Cromwell and PzJgr-I by Fujimi

PzAbt D to the west of New Romney at the start of the battle. MMS PzKfw-II, SHS PzKfw-III and a converted Airfix PzKfw-VI

4" Gun Truck of  X Battery

Seagull's eye view. The gun truck was mastered for SHQ but never released

2nd Northamptonshire Yeomanry by the New Sewer south east of Ivychurch. Note the radical difference between the Frontline Dutchman (furthest) and the SHQ (closest). Valentine is Fujimi

Another view of 2NHY. Carriers and Mk-VI by SHQ.

C Squadron NHY on the road to New Romney. Cromwell Guy Armoured Cars

273rd Field Battery fires the first rounds at the Germans

Armoured encounter - 2NHY, somewhat outgunned, clash with PzAbt D

The Germans push forward, trying to eliminate 2NHY before British reinforcements arrive

111IR push forwards to Littlestone. The Commandos take the brunt of the assault

The railway gun wasn't too effective. Scratch built WW1 12" howitzer masquerading as the 9.2" Railway gun.

C Squadron NHY pushes in to support the hard pressed infantry in Littlestone

B Squadron NHY also moves to support the infantry in Littlestone. This tilts the battle in the favour of the British in the town as the Germans lack armour of their own

British reinforcements: A10 of the Queens Bays - Cromwell

The Queens Bays surge forward to pummel Pz Abt D. A13's and A9's from Cromwell

The Germans strive to make progress in Littlestone. A commando succumbs to the Flammpanzer (MMS)

The Germans have some success in in taking on the British armour, armoured cars and carriers are vulnerable to MG fire. However by now the Germans are starting to take heavy casualties

The fog clears and the RAF "surge" flies in. Spitfire (Airfix) strafes a German sFH-18

Gladiator (Frog) strafes German infantry outside Littlestone

Lysander (Matchbox) tries to take out the PzJgr-1 but misses

Blenheim (Frog) bombs the Panzers

Queens Bays vs the Panzers

Counter Attack, the defenders of Littlestone charge the German infantry, most of which by this time is cowering shaken

Shaken Germans fall back

To make sure the Germans stay out of the battle a Hurricane helps them on their way

The British were too tough for the Germans, they didn't even set foot in Littlestone despite concentrating all their infantry for the attack. To the West there were just too many British tanks for PzAbt D to defeat.
